It’s birthday season at our house – over the course of 6 weeks we have 9 birthdays in our immediate family. Keeping up takes a lot of energy, a bit of planning and a creative use of our resources. This easy centerpiece, for example. It is a quick DIY project even the kids can do, using items you already have around the house.
You will need:
- scissors or paper cutter (this one is similar to the one I use, my affiliate link-wink)
- paper (most any type or color will do)
- pencil or pen
- straws or craft sticks or chopsticks or twigs
- tape
- container of some sort (vase, cup, can, jar)
1. Cut paper into strips 1/4″-1/2″ wide.
2. Tightly wrap each strip of paper around a pen or pencil, add a bit of pressure then release, allowing curl to slip off loosely.
3. Pull slightly on each curl to lengthen and tape one end of each curl to the end of a straw or stick.
4. Place in vase and voila! stand back, admire, and let the party begin!

Linda, I am joining your blog hop today…but I am having trouble lately with copying html code. Ugh. So I have copied your button and linked to this post. (Feel free to remove my link if that is not okay!)
Your birthday centerpiece is so cute! Love that it’s easy too! π

Nine birthdays in 6 weeks is a LOT!! We had 4 in 6 weeks with our anniversary and Mother’s Day in there too. The rest are each a month apart all fall.
Linda says
It is a lot, Judith. Busy but fun! One more birthday this week and then I can relax a bit, we will have one every couple of months.
Mother of 3 says
Cute idea! We’ve noticed in our families that birthday always seem to come in clumps too. Pinned.
Linda says
Thanks, Joanne π Crazy how these birthdays cluster, isn’t it?
Thanks for pinning – Have a fabulous weekend!

My goodness, that’s a lot of birthdays all at once, but just think of all the cake you get to eat for 6 weeks LOL. Your party decoration is a great idea and economical, too!
