I started out the year gathering moments from each month as a way of sharing glimpses of blessings and adventure and everyday life with you. A hard winter gave way to a blink of spring and I find summer has arrived in full force. Our gardens have been planted, they are growing and blooming and we are anxiously awaiting summer harvest!
We enjoyed walks outdoors – discovering morel mushrooms, picking wildflowers, identifying animal tracks.
While the winter just seemed to drag on, the children had to get creative in keeping themselves busy and occupied – with activities like creating stop-action movies with their stuffed animals.
Our son accomplished a major goal in earning his A.S. degree, winning top honors and scholarships and making the President’s List at our nearby community college – next step, the University to finish up his education with a Mechanical Engineering degree – proud of you, son!
Other school-related activities have been lessons on weather and climate, sometimes up close and personal (i.e. playing in the rain!) and helping Dad build a deck on the back of our house (can you say woodworking and shop class?). Besides our regular book work there have been hands-on bible lessons and science experiments in the kitchen and recreating history.
Our nearby town began a Local Farmer’s Market in May. We had loads of fun and learned a lot by setting up shop selling our heirloom bedding plants and flower boxes, as well as Mom’s soaps and Bug Bars. It’s a great way to connect with your neighbors, shop for locally grown items and support local artisans and entrepreneurs.
Around the web these past couple of months you may have heard Apron Strings & other things celebrated One Year! I’ve also had the privilege of guest posting at places like Busy Mama 911 and worked on becoming an authentic mom while participating in the No More Perfect Moms book study.
Cheryl at Thinking About Home is Gathering the Moments at the end of each month – come see what special things she and other friends have gathered this month.
Sharing this post at some of these wonderful places.

Busy days at your house (the good kind of busy!)…and many special moments gathered! Congratulations to your son (and to you, as well…don’t our children’s accomplishments feel like our own somehow?). I love the animated movies your creative children are making. I love that your garden is in and waiting for a bountiful harvest. I love that you’re not a perfect mother, but an authentic one!!
Thanks for “gathering” with me again this month, Linda!
Thank you Cheryl 🙂 Motherhood is a wonderful role and job. I wouldn’t trade my imperfect life for anything. I confess, I was probably more excited about our son’s accomplishments than he was – he’s pretty even-keeled and I tend to get emotional and make a big deal out of everything (he’s used to that by now 😉 ) but yes, our children’s accomplishments do feel a bit like our own and events like this kind of validate all of our hard work and dedication.
Enjoy your summer, Blessings!
Congratulations to the recent graduate! Our daughter just graduated college in May, too, so I can completely relate to the pride that we Mamas have when our children accomplish their goals. It looks like your family is taking full advantage of the spring weather. And that stop-action stuffed animal movie… great fun!
These are fun times 🙂 Congratulations on your daughter’s graduation! It is so exciting to see how God will use our children and the amazing adults they become. Thank you for visiting, Joanne, and your sweet comments.
