If you have been looking for wholesome, positive ways to keep your kids entertained, then you’ll want to pay attention to my review today. I want to introduce you to a brand new program from Smart Kidz Media called Smart Kidz Radio.
When my children were little, there was very little programming geared toward young children. I had a collection of cassette tapes that traveled with us in the car. In the house we had another set we used in the stereo when we were cleaning or working in the kitchen. I also played some for quiet time or bedtime. Then we added CDs to our collection and upgraded our stereo system.
Now, with the availability of podcasts and streaming and mp3 downloads we don’t need those old cassettes and CDs anymore, but I think there is still a need for quality edutainment for kids. Enter, SmartKidz Radio! It provides programming that encourages good character and positive life skills through song and story.
This online radio station has a variety of songs that promote and encourage good, positive attitudes and also stories that include good morals and character building, mainly through fairy tales. The songs are short and catchy, running on a loop.
With many, many songs on the docket, you’ll listen quite a while before hearing a song again. The menu on the main screen gives you the option to listen to podcasts, which are stories and fairy tales like ‘The Arabian Nights’ and ‘Rip Van Winkle’ and even ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and ‘The Three Little Pigs.’ The stories run close to 20 minutes, which is just right for keeping the attention of little ones on a road trip or during rest time.
There are several things available in the menu tab. The one my kids were most exited about was the Current Weather tab — we are weather watchers and they can check the weather forecast right there on the dashboard of the radio station!
There are other things on the menu tab as well – such as the option to send the radio stream to your smart phone – clicking that option on the menu, a window will pop up giving you a Qcode you can scan with your phone. I have not tried this myself, but this would sure make it easy to take on the road with you!
Currently you’ll find free programming, so it’s a great time to give this online radio station a try. Even though my children are older than their target audience, we enjoyed listening in while working on school lessons or playing it in background as we worked on other projects. It took them back to their young childhood when they used to listen to kid songs of all types.
Soon this programming will be available as On-Demand Membership option for a small monthly or yearly fee. I suggest you check out the free portion and decide for yourself if is a good fit for your family. Setting up an account is easy and free. A few minutes of entertainment for your children may be quite valuable some days!
Though my children are older than the target audience for Smart Kidz Radio, my grandchildren are between the ages of 1 and 9 and they are really going to enjoy this programming!
