For some 20 years now Friday night has been Pizza Night. The whole family gets involved. We have our own favorite pizza dough recipe, my family prefers my own homemade pizza sauce, everyone helps prepare the toppings and assemble the pizzas.
While we do stray from our ‘usual’ once in a while, most Friday nights you will find us baking four large pizzas — pepperoni; hamburger/sausage with just a few mushrooms and black olives; Hawaiian (ham and pineapple); and a veggie pizza.
While the pizzas are baking we either choose a good family movie to enjoy together or set up one of our favorite games to play together. Pizza and a movie or pizza and game night make for a fantastic family night tradition.
It is so much a part of our routine that when one of our adult children call home on a Friday evening they are apt to ask, “Are the pizzas in the oven?” Routine, boring, mundane, predictable. Yep! Some may think this isn’t a fun way to live, but for most of us, it brings comfort to know that there are things you can count on in life, like Friday Night Pizza Night.
Does your family enjoy a regular family night? What are your favorite games or movies? What toppings do you put on your pizzas?
And if you are curious about my pizza recipes, you can find them in the new edition of the {here comes my affiliate link!} ABC’s of Freezer Cooking. KM Logan has put together a fantastic ebook with helpful tips and tricks to freezer cooking, including recipes and she’s included my pizza dough and sauce recipes. You can purchase it here for just $3.99 and find out how I incorporate our pizza meals into my monthly freezer cooking day.
We are sharing Family Traditions of all types throughout the month of December. Click on the image below to see other posts on this topic.

We love Homemade Pizza! I can eat pizza any way you slice it, but I am a big Hawaiian fan. Zachary, my 12 year old, likes pepperoni and bacon and my husband likes the works. While we don’t have a specific night of the week for pizza and movies, it’s something we enjoy often as well.

There’s nothing better than pizza and a movie with the family, whatever the night! I’m with your husband – I like the works. My boys really like bacon, but I’m too lazy to cook that extra something. I’m so glad to know others like Hawaiian – so many of my friends say fruit should not be on a pizza. I’ll be thinking of you next time we work up our pizza dough!

Homemade pizza is awesome. My kids love to make their own versions.

Oh, your Friday night meal plan is more ambitious than ours! We do carry out food on Friday evenings, and then watch a movie together. We also have movies snacks! 😀
Family traditions are such great tools for building togetherness!
Linda says
ha ha, Chery – I confess, carry-out sounds pretty good to me some nights! The important thing is being together, right? I’d love to see a list of your family’s favorite movies one day!

Some may call Pizza Night boring and mundane but I call it comforting and cozy!
Linda says
I’m with you, Sylvia, I’ll take boring,! It is rather nice to be able to count on some things in life.

Our pizza night is Saturday and we have done this for about twenty years also.
