In my life this week…I watched as our youngest children enjoyed their roles as Aunts and Uncles as we had 2 of our grandchildren for a long weekend. There were water gun fights and Bible stories and giggles and treats. There were also summer colds – no fun. We enjoyed the first tomatoes from our very own garden – yum!
In our homeschool this week…we resigned to the fact that we have not done the schooling we thought we would do through the summer. But that’s ok. It’s easy to pick up where we left off, and we can pick and choose what is truly worth picking up again.
I also have our curriculum choices finalized. Still working at lesson plans, but we’ll start in slow this coming week with establishing our morning routine and math lessons. We’ll also begin learning German together. Full-time school days will begin the day after labor day.
Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…Consider starting your new school year slowly. Begin 1 main subject the first week and add in another 1 or 2 each week following until you’ve worked up to a full schedule. We find this helps transition from the more unstructured summer season to the more routine school year. It builds momentum, and before we know we are full-steam ahead! This provides mom with time for reading some of her favorite authors so she is motivated and ready to go.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…school shopping and a friend’s wedding and planning a family reunion. Our days seems to be busier now than they have all summer!
My favorite thing this week was…a beautiful wedding, near a small lake under God’s Own canopy of green trees and blue skies, 2 special young people professing their love for one another and for Jesus, everyone present lifting their voices in songs of praise.
Things I’m working on…school planning, still.
I’m cooking…crockpot lasagne for basket dinner after services tomorrow. We also put up several jars of peach preserves, 2 peach pies, a peach crisp, and 15 quarts of sliced peaches this week. Looks like we’ll be canning some green beans in another day or so.
I’m grateful for…sweet friends, old and new.
I’m praying for…my family, my children, my husband.
I’m looking forward to…birthdays this month. Gabe will be 11, and Arioch will be 4!
A photo for you…
Linking up at some of these wonderful places.

Hello, and welcome! I’m so glad you stopped by. I hope you find encouragement here. Thank you for admiring my bouquet – they are beginning to wilt now, so my little flower girl may need to head out to pick another soon. Enjoy your day!

I normally start instantly with the first day. But I had been toying around with beginning later this week and slowly. Thanks for the encouragement to do so.

I think there are benefits to both styles, Lisa. If you choose to start in slowly, let me know how it goes 🙂 and call me if you need a little kickstart ;). You did great last year, I’m sure it’ll be another fantastic year for you!

Thank you for stopping by and visiting and sharing your own daybook! You asked about my chore chart- it’s a “borrowed” idea from Confessions of a Homeschooler. Loving it so far and such a blessing to see the children completing their tasks. I’m taking your advice on easing into the year. We actually will begin math tomorrow, but don’t plan to be up to full speed til after Labor Day.

Hi Stephanie 🙂 thank you for sharing about the chore chart. I’ll visit over at Confessions of a Homeschooler to check it out. Glad to hear it’s working well for you. Hope the slow start helps your transition into your new school year. I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow as we pull out our math books, too. Have a great week!
