My family loves a good burger on Saturday nights. But I don’t always feel up to Mixing and seasoning and making patties. To make it easier to get this popular meal on the table even when our weekends are busy, I make sure I have a meal plan. As part of my freezer cooking plan I often make up hamburger packets.
10 Steps to Getting Your Hamburger Patties from Freezer to Table
- Mix together ground meat (1lb make 4 good-sized hamburger patties) – we use mainly ground venison, some ground beef and often ground pork and ground turkey.
- Add in favorite seasonings. (We use a bit of smoked sea salt, pepper, cajun spice, a bit of BBQ sauce and worchestershire sauce)
- Take a piece of cardboard cut to fit into a gallon-sized freezer bag.
- Lay a piece of plastic wrap on cardboard.
- With a large cookie scoop, drop four scoops of burger mixture onto plastic wrap. For larger burgers, add a second scoop on top.
- Repeat steps 4 and 5.
- Lay another layer of plastic wrap on top. Press slightly on each pile. Tucks edges under.
- Slide the stack of burgers into freezer bag and seal.
- Label and Freeze.
- Thaw and cook as you normally would. Serve with your favorite toppings and sides.
You can package enough patties for each meal to cut down on prep time the day you want to serve them. You could also wrap each patty individually and store several in each bag, then thawing only as many as you need at a time. How is that for being prepared?

That is a simple trick that makes life easier in the long run! Win-win! I really like your idea of freezing them in fours or even individually.

Having things like burgers at-the-ready is really helpful with one son coming and going with college classes and work, and the younger children helping get meals on the table more often. Thanks for stopping by Cheryl!

I need to do this. My mom always used to and I don’t know why I dont. I often purchase pre-made frozen hamburgers because they are quick and easy for my husband and son to make when I am asleep or away, but they are $$$ and they don’t taste very good. I think they are made with poor quality beef. This is going on my to do list.

Once you get in the habit, it only takes a few minutes to get patties in the freezer. And, yes, it makes it so much easier for the rest of the family to get their own π Hope you get a chance to give it a try.

I do these all the time in the summer months.
I occasionally will add chopped mushrooms to ours as well. π
So easy to make and so handy.

Always a good idea to have extra burgers ready in the summertime, Sherri! I’ll have to remember about the mushrooms, yum!

This would definitely save time. I do a lot of canning meat and this saves a lot of time. Also I have something ready if the power ever goes out! Thanks for linking at Pintastic Pinteresting Party!

It really is a time-saver, Jill. I have never canned meat, but would like to try. I can see how that would be a huge time saver, and a help to the budget as well. Talk about being prepared? Having those jars lined up in the pantry would be wonderful!
