This Year on Mother’s Day I will . . .

. . . give up expectations. I’ll not let the advertising world or pinterest or greeting card companies or well-meaning friends tell me that I deserve to be showered with gifts and laden with flowers. Without these expectations I won’t be disappointed when my family did not get the memo that Sunday is Mother’s Day.
. . . celebrate those I have had the privilege to mother. Eight beautiful people here on earth and one tiny blessing already in heaven call me mother, mommy, mama, mom. Ahhhh, the sweetest of names! I thank God for this role He’s given me and my prayer is that my children know how I love them.
. . . enjoy the man who fathered my children. I couldn’t have done it alone, wouldn’t want to, and my husband needs to know. I’ll enjoy the privilege of serving him and our children even if there is no breakfast in bed come Sunday morning.
. . . remember my mother, her love and beauty and gifts I no longer have the joy of experiencing. I will relive our visits over coffee and her special touch with my newborn babies and that witty crazy humor of hers.
. . . rejoice in my daughters and daughter-in-law who are amazing mothers, leaps and bounds ahead of where I was at that same stage in life.
. . . remind myself of Christ who came and died for me even though I didn’t deserve it and find joy in the day whether there are flowers and gifts or no.
“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters” [and sons and daughters and husbands ] 1 John 3:16

I am very glad I ran across “Apron Strings and Other Things” and have been able to participate in the link up. I’ll be poking around your blog today as time allows with so many kiddos there isn’t always a lot of time. Thank you for featuring my post on 13 ways to save money on food. Saying that you found it encouraging is huge compliment for me as I am seeking to provide Titus 2:3-5 encouragement via Aspired Living. May the Lord continue to shine his face upon you!
