I am always happy to find a resource that will help give my children a good foundation in math. Having access to quality programs like Adaptive Math Curriculum Online from A+ Interactive Math (by A+ TutorSoft Inc.) are helping us identify and address learning gaps in my daughter’s and son’s math skills. This is why I accepted the opportunity to use and review a one year subscription to this computer-based math curriculum.
What is it?
The A+ Adaptive Math Curriculum is an online program that gives math lessons at a level appropriate for your student. In order to determine this, the child takes a placement test first. Then the student is enrolled in a ‘target’ grade level. The program will give a mini-test for each major math concept to gauge student’s skill level. There is an automatic adjustment for the difficulty level of questions based on the answers provided by student. If a learning gap is detected between the “target” grade level and student’s current skill level, it automatically creates an individualized plan for the student.
This plan includes video lessons, interactive review, practice worksheets online, automatic grading and tracking, and re-test. To sum it up, this program is a skill-based learning model. The term ‘adaptive’ is an accurate description. It covers Grades 1–6 and Pre-Algebra. It is completely automated, with lessons chosen for the student by the program.
A+ TutorSoft meets (and even exceeds) all state standards so you know it provides a solid math foundation. It could be used as a stand-alone math curriculum or a supplement to what a student is already using.
How are we using it?
We set up accounts for Mom (teacher) and 2 children. They each began taking pre-tests to determine what level their lessons should be and also to determine what skills are weak.
After watching each video lesson, there is an interactive question and answer review which helps to identify any gaps left after the lesson and it will then re-teach the appropriate portion of the math concept. There are also online worksheets for practice. If they do not master a concept, they can re-do the lesson and re-take the tests.
I am able to log in to my dashboard, manage students, check progress reports and charts to see how they are doing and view their progress. I like having these visual reports to keep track. My children are able to log in to their own accounts and begin their lessons without help from me.
Our goal is to have our 6th grade daughter and 8th grade son use this online program three times per week. With vacation time, out of town company and a few kids a bit under the weather passing a cold around, we have not always been able to meet that goal, but it’s easy for them to pick up where they left off and move forward with the lessons. They’ll be continuing through lessons at a rate of 3 per week, until we get into our fall school session. Because this truly is an adaptive program, their math skills will continue to be honed and improved.
What do we think?
The videos provided in the program are clear and easy for both my son and daughter to understand. Online learning is becoming more and more popular. The interactive and adaptive aspects of this program definitely its strengths. I lean toward old-fashioned text books for our core math curriculum, but Adaptive Math Curriculum Online from A+ Interactive Math (by A+ TutorSoft Inc.) has helped me see how a computer based curriculum can be effective in our homeschool.
I’m also pleased to see how my children are able to be self-starters and move through the lessons without me giving instruction at each step of the way.
Also available is the Family Math Package which is a package of ALL grade levels (Grades 1- 6, Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1) A parent can place a student in any grade level and change the grade level at any time, but the lessons are not adaptable, as there is not the pre-testing step that we found in the Adaptive Curriculum.
Several families on our Homeschool Crew Review are sharing their experiences using both programs from A+ Interactive Math (by A+ TutorSoft Inc.) Click on the image below to see if it might be a good fit for your students!

I like the way it motivates kids to be self-starters and gives the parent and the child access to their progress so both understand where the child is at in the process. It sounds like it would be great for people who travel, too as the online program can go with you anywhere.
