For a couple of years now I’ve been reading a blog called A Slob Comes Clean. Dana White, or Nony (for Anonymous) as she is affectionately called, is my hero. Through her blog, Dana has courageously shared with the public her day-to-day battle with taming the clutter monster. I enjoyed her ebooks so much I signed up as one of her affiliates {my affiliate link coming up!} 28 Days to Hope for Your Home and Drowning in Clutter? – Don’t Grab a Floatie. . . Drain the Ocean! have been a great encouragement to me in my own attempts at deslobification. Her simple step-by-step helps and her hilarious anecdotes are the perfect combination to keeping it all in perspective while offering realistic encouragement for keeping up with housework.

sharing this post at some of these wonderful places.

My best clutter-busting tip- purge. Every 6 months we purge the house. Attic, garage, closets, everything. If it hasn’t been used in the last year (or doesn’t have DEEP sentimental value), we toss it or donate it. You won’t believe the piles of stuff we get rid of. After the purge, there is so much space for putting away the things we keep.
a wonderful plan, Kristin. I know first hand how quickly ‘stuff’ piles up. Have regular times to purge is very smart.
A place for everything and everything in its place. If it doesn’t have a place ad a purpose then throw it out!
You sound like my mother!
Just get rid of it. Use black plastic bags so the kiddos can’t see what’s going and throw to your hearts content!
Using black bags is a terrific tip! It keeps myself as well as the children from pulling things back out!
My best way to de-clutter is to look at everything that I haven’t used in a year and either giveaway or throw away.
if you haven’t used it in 6 months (unless its medicine for cold season, winter/summer clothes that are currently out of season, or essentials that you like to have) then get rid of it! have a yard sale for your old items and you will be more likely to get rid of them! and it cuts down on waste!
6 months, eh? You are one serious declutterer, Kelly!
Oh, I love reading her blog! I would love winning these. -Tabitha
When I declutter, I like to completely empty a small space, and then like a vacuum, suck everything in that belongs there from other places in the house. -Tabitha
that sounds like a fantastic system, Tabitha!
I like to wash my pots and pans before dinner if possible. I never feel like it afterward.
That makes supper clean up so much easier, Sharon.
Before cooking any meal or baking, I always wash the dishes in the sink and as I go along, I wash and wash some more.
that is so very smart, Sharon
Don’t fall into the ‘buying stuff’ frame of mind that seems to be the norm nowadays. Pick up and put up something every day.
Excellent advice!
The timer helps me stay focused.
I use the timer as well, CW – makes me much more productive. Works great as a motivator for my children too 🙂
I love the tips on A Slob comes clean. I can relate so well.
Me too Emily. Sometimes it’s like she speaks my exact thoughts or has been in my home!
My best clutter-busting tip is to just not bring the stuff into your house to begin with. Easier said than done, though! LOL! Thanks for the chance to win. I really Dana’s blog and her helpful advice!
LOL Stacy! That is the ultimate clutter-buster 😀
Just start. I get so caught up in how long it may take me or what will I do with it that I don’t declutter. The best thing to do is just get started, but start small. The small accomplishments help you to gain momentum.
great advice, Darcey. Starting is the biggest step, isn’t it?
