Can you imagine having a place where you can find homeschooling curriculum and resources for all subjects, all grades, all ages, all in one spot? My family is loving the variety of High School Homeschool Courses available with the Ultimate PreK-12 Annual Membership from SchoolhouseTeachers.com.
It’s like a digital smorgasbord of courses where I can pick and choose classes, activities, planners, videos and more to create a customized education for each of my students. I love this flexibility. But if the idea of pick-and-choose is overwhelming, there are classes organized to cover a full scope and sequence for each grade level. With lesson plans available for each course it’s a breeze to jump in and get started.
We have been using SchoolhouseTeachers for supplement courses and activities for several years now. Currently, my 16 year old son is working through a graphic design class and my 14 year old daughter is beginning a Botany class and the Write on This Day in History course. Because the classes are self-paced, and because I can download the lesson plans that include daily assignment check lists, they are know exactly what to do with their time each day. It also makes it easy for me to follow up on their completed assignments.
For one membership price, SchoolhouseTeachers.com, a monthly or yearly fee gives you access for every person in the family. It is a Christian, self-paced website which offers complete homeschool curriculum. There are more than 450 courses, there are helpful resources just for parents as well as interactive content, lesson plans, a scope and sequence, a custom schedule builder.
You’ll find focused learning centers for high school help (I spend a lot of time in this section!,) special needs and lots more. A membership bonus I have really enjoyed is the complimentary issue of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine. It’s nice to sit down with a cup of coffee and relax as I skim through articles written by homeschooling parents and experts. and other members-only bonuses.
The section we visited most this past month was the Christmas – we found all sorts of Christmas-related activities and videos to keep us busy and entertained. There are videos for young children, inspirational shows for older children and all sorts of things suitable for family viewing. There are several ‘seasonal’ options for you to enjoy!
Included with the Ultimate PreK-12 Annual Membership is a video library. The majority of these videos (like the Torchlighter episodes in Lighting the Way or the Drive Thru History videos) can be enjoyed on their own without taking the whole “course” they are part of or used as a part of your curriculum. Did I mention how much I love the flexibility?!
To get a good, overall understanding of how all this can work for you, I recommend reading through the Getting Started tab. You’ll find the answer to many of your questions and get a good idea of how things flow – a sort of blueprint. Areas you’ll want to explore are:
- 1) School Boxes (Curriculum Boxes) — these are like Boxed Curriculum
- 2) Courses — Individual courses so you can build your own customized complete curriculum for your student(s). Or use an individual course to supplement!
- 3) Lesson Plans
- 4) The video library.
- 5) Resources such as the Literacy Center, the Focused Learning Centers or Special Needs
