If time travel is something you’ve always hoped you could experience, you’ll enjoy reading Pursued to Eternity. The author, John Riley, takes his readers on a thrilling adventure while sharing scientific evidence for creation. Soon after receiving my copy, I sat down and read from cover to cover, with plans to read out loud during our family read aloud time.
This is a quick read, just 150 pages or so, which I classify as “more-than-fiction” because real life experience is woven into a fictional account and challenges the reader to think critically. Part biographical, part fiction, part apologetics – it’s a great way to grow and stretch while enjoying a good read.
Connor Bridges, a biology teacher, and author of this book is a Christian. His brother, Dr. Alan Bridges is a geologist, finds himself pursued by God. This book chronicles Connor and Alan’s six-month amazing odyssey before Alan’s death.
Interwoven between the covers you’ll find scripture, evidence for creation found in nature, and basic logic. All these add up to show the conclusion that clearly, there is a Creator of the universe.
In the beginning, you’ll be taken back in time to experience early life on earth, including a dinosaur hunt. Chapter Two takes you back to Noah’s Flood and the Tower of Babel. The next chapters bring you to life with the Egyptians and the Hebrew people.
When you reach Chapter 9 you’ll learn more about how Connor reached out to his students on the topic of creation, taking time to explain flaws in evolution and give evidence for creation and a designer. Together they start a website for students as a place to share their what they learn. On the website, and in the book, you’ll find 68 key questions that will help students research and come to an understanding of why they can believe in the Biblical creation account.
As a result of his outreach to the students, Connor lost his job but moved on to amazing opportunities. He began Digging Up History and even went on an archeological excavation in Africa. There he was part of a team that discovered what turned out to be a human man that had fallen into a pit, pursued by a large dinosaur. This would that humans and dinosaurs existed together.
You’ll want to read more yourself to learn about the physical tragedy of a plane crash, but spiritual victory that leads to eternal life!
Often, books on apologetics can be great resources, but are not engaging to our young people. Pursued to Eternity engages the reader emotionally and while challenging the brain to think critically. I think this book shows us how God is alive and present and active in our lives today and has been since the beginning of time.
You can also find John Riley on SchoolhouseTeachers.com teaches a course called Apologetics: Creation vs. Evolution (if you purchase a subscription through my link, I earn a small commission.) This book goes nicely with this online class.
