Some of my most precious memories from the years when my children were young was cuddling up and reading out loud. Now I see them reading some of the same stories to their own children. How exciting it is to see the tradition continue, and how exciting it is to see companies like One More Story bringing classics into our high-tech age!
While it has been a long while since my children were small enough to curl up in my lap, I was excited to get the chance to take a peek at the online subscription for this digital resource, thinking about how my own children would have used it and how my grandchildren can now enjoy a whole new reading experience.
One More Story is an online app that can be accessed on any computer or mobile device through any browser (Chrome or Safari are preferred, though) or with an iOS app. It offers bookshelves full of a wide variety of picture books and easy-reader books for children. Many are books I read to my children over the last 30 years, but it has been fun to discover new favorites as well.
The app has been easy to use. I was able to sign in and access the program with my laptop and my tablet. Once logged in, we could browse the ‘bookselves’ viewing the covers of all the books available. You can choose to have each book read outloud, with the program automatically turning pages as you go, or you can choose to ‘flip’ the pages yourself. You can turn off the read-aloud option so you can read out loud yourself, or let the child read out loud.
When our grandchildren arrived for a visit, we had fun exploring many of the books in One More Story. I found it a valuable tool with our early risers – it kept them entertained while Grandpa slept in on vacation days. We also used it during quiet time and nap time.
This is a stand alone program, and the books are appropriate for young ages so I did not have to worry about what they would be accessing. At ages 4, 6 and 7 they were able to find their way their way around the book shelves, click on the books they wanted to hear or read, and navigate their way around without frustration.
In this digital age we find so many resources available, but not always beneficial. One More Story is one digital resource that is worthwhile! I can see this being used while traveling, or during illness. When my children were young I would have used the app while sitting in a waiting room or when older siblings needed mom’s attention with school lessons.
One More Story can be accessed anywhere in the world, as long as you have Broadband Internet access. It can be used as an educational tool, as a reward, in the classroom or homeschool. They have won several awards, including a Parents’ Choice Award, a Teachers’ Choice Awards and were named a Top Ten Digital resource by School Library Journal. They have also received an award for finding “original and effective ways to spread the excitement of books and reading.” And with our family’s recommendation, they receive the Two-Thumbs-Up award!

Thank you for taking the time to review our early literacy resource, One More Story. Yes, the classics ring true today because they’ve found a way to speak children’s imaginations. Children still relate to Peter and his romp in the snow even though The Snowy Day was published more than 50 years ago. Our new books have a more contemporary look and feel but still create worlds that engage young readers. Picture books do so much to increase children”s vocabulary and comprehension. Add to that a rich sound track and the multi-sensory experience help children to see how engaging these stories are.
Happy reading!

What a great resource. I love the ability to have the book with the read along option.
