Today my daughter Esther, 12 years old, will be guest posting for me. She found an adorable scarf pattern online recently and whipped one up for herself. She’d like to share it with you.
Hello! I’m Esther. This post will tell you how to make a frilly scarf. I found this pattern at working with eager hands . I hope you enjoy it.
What you’ll need:
- Lightweight fabric.
- Thread.
- Lace or ribbon.
- Scissors or rotary cutter.
- And a sewing machine.
1:Pick your fabric.Light fabrics work better.
2:Cut the fabric 8 inches wide by 60 inches long. If you need to, you can sew two shorter strips together to make it the right length.
3:Hem all the edges. The two short edges on my scarf seemed fine because of the selvedge edge, so I did not hem those.
4:Sew a piece of lace or ribbon down the middle of your scarf. It’s best to match color with fabric as close as you can.
5:string elastic through the ribbon. The elastic needs to be about half the length of the scarf.
6:Sew across the the ends of the elastic and lace and there you have it! A beautiful scarf!

Linda, I am impressed by Esther and her ability to make something so beautiful at such a young age. 🙂 Did she also write the post that you put together? Way to go Esther! (Thanks for stopping by my blog to say hi.) Blessings, Nicki
Thank you Nicki 🙂 I’ll pass the compliment on to her! She did write the entire post, and did all the photography and editing (except for the photos of herself, I took those). Thanks for stopping in and enjoying this post with us. Blessings!
I pinned it too! How cute!! I love to see a young lady learning to sew! Too many don’t know how. I want a white one I think! I need to learn to make my posts pin-able! I shall add the scarf and the learning to my to do list!!
Thank you Amanda 🙂 Esther says thank you too. A white one would be beautiful! If you don’t get to your sewing machine, maybe you can work out a deal with my little seamstress 😉
That is such a beautiful scarf and the material is not the easiest to sew on either. Thank you so much for sharing this over at WholeHearted Home this past week.
Thank you Judith 🙂 I’ll pass the compliment on to my daughter. And thank you for hosting every week. I always find encouragement and great ideas at WholeHearted Home.
Thanks so much for sharing how to make this beautiful scarf!
You are welcome, Karen 🙂 I’m so glad you stopped by for a visit today!
