Over the years I have been asked this one question about homeschooling more than any other – what about high school and will they be ready for college? There are many different answers to this question but one resource that equips parents with some amazing solutions is The HomeScholar, an online membership site. I have been going through their College Launch Solution this summer as we help our 17 year old son finish up and get ready for the next phase of his education journey.
Learning how to navigate the world of transcripts and course descriptions and testing and scholarship applications can be overwhelming. It still makes my heart race and my head swim. I am happy to have Lee Binz, the creator and coach at The HomeScholar is there to hold my hand and walk me through it all.
The website is jam-packed full of useful information and resources to help you guide your student all the way through high school, into college and onto their career path. Depending on where you are in your journey, you’ll something that is just right for you.
Products available include:
- Total Transcript Solution – an excellent resource for every homeschool family. Even if not college bound, students will benefit from having a complete and accurate transcript of their high school courses.
- Comprehensive Record Solution – a more in-depth resource for parents of children planning to apply to colleges.
- High School Solution – a training workshop that walks parents from middle school through high school graduation that includes monthly emails and video courses and support.
- College Launch Solution – focusing on the last couple years of high school, this workshop gets serious about all the details of choosing high school courses, applying for colleges, finding scholarships, writing application essays and so much more!
The unique aspect of these courses is that they are designed to equip parents to step into the role of counselor as they guide their child through the processes and jump through the hoops necessary to get the where they want to be. Did it ever occur to you that you could be your student’s guidance counselor and college coach? Yes, you can!
These products are intended to be self-paced – you can go as quickly or as slowly as you need. You can jump around and choose the videos or podcasts that speak to your current needs. You can download and printout the workbooks, slides, articles and use them in ways that benefit your family best.
A subscription to any of these courses gives you lifetime access. When you purchase, you can then use it for all of your children, no annual renewal needed.
Because we have a child preparing for launch (is it possible he’ll be starting college next year already?!) we have been working through modules in the College Launch Solution. In the Core Training section, it was easy to move from one tab to another, choosing what things we wanted to focus on. I have been watching many of the parent workshops, taking notes and then discussing later with our son. He has watching the teen overviews when available and has printed out some of the resources to help him get all his ducks in a row.
It has been helpful to Noah to have a checklist of things to get in order and to hear about the types of things colleges may be looking for on your application. He had no idea there could be so many scholarships available or that he could actually apply for as many as he could find. Just hearing about how to hone in on what scholarships to consider and how to streamline your application process has been so very helpful.
I also appreciate that the College Launch Solution addresses things like finances and preparing for college lifestyle. It’s one thing to make the grade and get accepted. It’s another thing to be financially, emotionally and spiritually ready. It all affects the student and the family!
As a homeschool mom, my job has been to prepare my children for life as adults. Watching them approach that goal and get ready to step out on their own is never easy. Exciting, scary, thrilling, but challenging. I am grateful to people like Lee Binz and the team at The HomeScholar who help make this journey and transition smoother.

Hi Linda, thank you for your thoughtful and thorough review of the College Launch Solution.
I loved what you said, “I also appreciate that the College Launch Solution addresses things like finances and preparing for college lifestyle. It’s one thing to make the grade and get accepted. It’s another thing to be financially, emotionally and spiritually ready. It all affects the student and the family!”
When we took a look at the products on the market, none of them seemed to pay much attention to the question of getting the student ready to succeed in college. They just kind of assumed they were! As homeschoolers, we know this is a critical question that needs to be tackled head on! Like you said, it is our job to get them ready to step out on their own.
I will be sharing your review with our newsletter subscribers. Please let your readers know that if they have questions about the College Launch Solution, they can reach out to us on our website either through chat or the contact form. God Bless You!
Blessings,
Lee Binz
